When it comes to sales, it can be hard to know which horses to focus on. We put together shortlists that highlight the ones worth your attention. Need your bloodstock or bloodstock portfolio valued? We provide official valuations and documentation for your needs.
A bloodstock agent acts as a trusted advisor in the thoroughbred industry. They provide expert guidance on selecting, purchasing, selling, and breeding thoroughbreds. With a deep understanding of pedigrees, conformation, and market trends, their role is to help clients make well-informed decisions that align with their racing or breeding objectives.
The thoroughbred industry is complex and fast-moving. A bloodstock agent brings experience, objectivity and market insight to the table, ensuring clients don’t just buy or sell on instinct or under the influence of vested commercial interests. By engaging an agent, you gain access to industry networks, informed evaluations and strategies that can maximise both success on the track and long-term breeding value.
In most cases, a bloodstock agent is paid a commission, usually a small percentage of the purchase or sale price of a horse. This performance-based structure ensures that the agent’s incentives are closely aligned with the client’s. For additional services – such as ongoing management advice or breeding strategy – tailored fee arrangements may also apply.
Every purchase involves weighing up a number of factors: the horse’s pedigree and athletic potential, its physical strengths and weaknesses, temperament and suitability for your specific goals – whether that’s racing, breeding, or both. A skilled bloodstock agent evaluates all of these elements within the context of current market conditions, helping you invest with confidence.
